New Trends in Southeast Asian Hotel Bathroom Mirrors: Why Are Orders for Smart LED Bathroom Mirrors Continuing to Rise?

2026-09-09

Over the past two years, there has been a significant increase in orders for smart bathroom mirrors in new construction and renovation projects for hotels in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The Asia-Pacific smart mirror market is projected to reach $559 million by 2026, with hotel and apartment projects in Southeast Asia contributing a significant portion of this growth.

Behind this round of growth, there are several trends worth noting.

Trend 1: Moisture Resistance Isn’t Just A Bonus - It’s A Mandatory Requirement

With Southeast Asia’s high temperatures and humidity, bathroom environments pose a harsher challenge to electronic products than one might imagine. In such conditions, traditional silver-plated mirrors often suffer from blackened edges and corrosion on the back panel.

The first question buyers now ask is: “What is the waterproof rating?” IP44 has become the minimum standard, while some projects with higher requirements specify IP65 outright. Anti-fog functionality is now standard. In the Malaysian market, demand for anti-fog mirrors continues to rise due to the humid climate. For hotels, a mirror that makes it impossible to see one’s face clearly after a shower is a surefire source of complaints.

The core requirements are clear: copper-free mirror surfaces, anti-oxidation coatings, fully sealed back panels, and a protection rating of IP44 or higher. These aren’t just nice-to-haves, they’re critical to whether a product can survive even a single year in the Southeast Asian market.

Trend 2: Frameless - The Simpler, the More Sophisticated

In recent years, hotel design trends in Southeast Asia have been shifting. The old-style bathroom mirrors with heavy frames and ornate details are being phased out, replaced by minimalist, frameless designs.

Frameless mirrors, mounted flush against the wall, create a cleaner visual appearance and a greater sense of space, and they complement today’s popular modern, Japanese, and Scandinavian styles. Local smart mirror manufacturers in Malaysia are also moving in this direction. Buyers no longer seek items that “look expensive”, but rather those that “look right”, simplicity, restraint, and seamless integration into the space are now the dominant aesthetic in hotel design.

Trend 3: Small-Batch Customization - It’s Not Just About the Big Chain Stores

In the past, orders for smart mirrors came mainly from large hotel chains, with dozens or even hundreds of locations placing bulk purchases. But now the situation has changed: there are more and more projects involving boutique hotels, independent hotels, and clusters of vacation rentals. While order volumes are small, the demands are very specific.

Dimensions must be custom-made; when renovating older hotels, the dimensions of wall openings vary widely, making standard sizes impossible to install. Features must also be configured on a needs-based basis, it’s not about having as many features as possible, but rather “just enough”. Anti-fogging, high-color-rendering lighting, and touch-controlled dimming are essential requirements, whereas additional features like Bluetooth music and weather forecasts tend to increase failure rates and costs.

Minimum order quantities are also decreasing. Whereas minimum order thresholds used to be several hundred or even thousands of units, some suppliers now accept custom orders as small as a few dozen units.

Purchasing Tip: Voltage Compatibility Is a Common Pitfall

Voltage standards vary across Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia uses 230V, Malaysia uses 240V, and Vietnam uses 220V. If a product supports only a single voltage, cross-border procurement requires maintaining multiple sets of inventory, which is both cumbersome and costly.

The current industry standard is to use wide-voltage drivers that automatically adapt to the 100V–240V range. When purchasing, be sure to verify the voltage range of the power supply and check for certifications; CE and RoHS are essentially standard requirements in the Southeast Asian market. Additionally, there must be physical isolation between low-voltage circuits (such as USB charging ports) and high-voltage circuits (such as defrost heating), as failure to do so poses a safety hazard.

Custom Smart Bathroom Mirrors: It’s More Than Just Changing the Size

Anyone who has actually worked on hotel projects knows that customizing smart bathroom mirrors involves much more than simply “getting the dimensions right”.

First is the customization of the appearance: frameless, ultra-thin, rounded corners, or custom shapes. Different hotel brands have their own visual identity (VI) guidelines, and the mirror’s appearance must align with the overall design language. Second is the customization of lighting: should the color temperature be 3000K warm light or 4000K natural light? Can the color rendering index (CRI) reach Ra ≥ 90? Should the angle of the makeup mirror’s fill light be adjusted? These details directly impact the guest experience.

There’s also the flexible combination of functional modules. Some projects only require anti-fog and lighting, a basic model is sufficient; others, such as mid-to-high-end hotels, may want to add motion-sensing switches, time and temperature displays, or even Bluetooth connectivity and an IP65 waterproof rating. The feature lists vary completely depending on a project’s positioning. The value of ODM lies not in presenting you with off-the-shelf products to choose from, but in tailoring everything, from mirror finishes and driver solutions to control logic, to your specific project requirements.

Flexible minimum order quantities are also crucial. Hotel chains may purchase several hundred units at once, while boutique hotels might only need a few dozen, we accept both types of orders. Dimensions, features, voltage, and certifications are all tailored to the requirements of the project’s location, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach.
